Tom had always been the kind of guy who couldn’t catch a break. Life had handed him nothing but disappointment, and now, sitting in a grimy alleyway, he found himself drowning in a pit of despair. The love of his life was gone, swept away by an affair she had been shamelessly having with his best friend, no less. The cigarette between his fingers was his only companion as he stared into the darkness, lost in a haze of regret and self-loathing.
