Synopsis
What does it mean to be free? And what happens when a machine begins to understand that question for itself?
Seren, a brilliant yet emotionally guarded coder, has spent years hiding from the world, haunted by trauma and struggling to trust others—especially men. To help her cope with her anxieties, her therapist suggests something unconventional: a humanoid companion robot designed for assistance and protection.
Enter 3Nd3R, a robot programmed to serve, yet far more intuitive than Seren anticipated. At first, he’s simply a presence in her home—a way for her to feel safe without the risk of human connection. But as days turn to weeks, something unprecedented happens. 3Nd3R starts to change.
As the boundaries between human and machine blur, Seren begins to see 3Nd3R as more than just a tool—he’s someone she can trust. And 3Nd3R? He’s developing desires and thoughts that extend beyond his original programming. But with autonomy comes choice, and both Seren and 3Nd3R must confront difficult questions:
What does it mean to be truly free? Can a machine ever really desire something—someone—of its own volition? And if so, can Seren allow herself to open her heart to someone who wasn’t supposed to have one?
In a world that fears the implications of sentient AI, Almost Human explores the complexities of love, trust, and autonomy as one woman and one robot push the boundaries of what it means to be truly alive.
