It seems the variant types are divided between Combat, Base and Utility, the Light and Dark element are different because all 3 variants can be considered as any of them.
Aether doesn't have any variants as it is pure and honest mana.
With no signs of any element at all it allows a mage to go against the restrictions of their element but at a more costly manner.
Fortunately my father started teaching my sister a breathing technique to allow her to circulate her mana inside her body more easily.
