Finally, months after the demo came out, in which all you could do was create your character, if you chose to do so, and walk around a starter area, Adventure Online was released by Omicorps. Gamers everywhere were rejoicing that they finally had the chance to truly dive into their favorite games. During an interview with the lead developer, Andrew, he said something that shocked everyone.
"We decided to do something different to truly separate us from other games. To explain better let me backtrack a bit. Say I am to shot in the head stabbed in the heart, or slashed in the stomach. I'm going to die instead of just taking damage to a health bar. So why can't it be that way in games? Well, we did just that. We removed a health bar from the game, so if someone that's let's say level 5 has an equal chance to kill someone that's level 20 while he or she has the same chance to kill them as well. Although that would require catching them off guard despite skill or weapon difference." He stated rather excitedly.

The statement sent a wave through the gaming community on whether or not it was fair. In the end it wouldn't matter that is how the game was and no one was going to pass up the chance to play the first virtual reality.
