A genetically enhanced super-soldier is unexpectedly pulled through a wormhole during a mission. He finds himself on the shores of a new world, inhabited by a society resembling 19th century Earth, but where the locals practice basic forms of magic - magic that can be wondrous but also dangerous. With his militaristic purpose now stripped away, he has no choice but to embrace a more civilian role and adapt and learn about the workings of this world's societal, political and magical forces.
