Synopsis
The third novel in the Tissue of Deception Trilogy, titled: "The Fifth Freedom" continues tracing Charlotte Mckenna's adventures as she seeks to track down this malignant gemstone and destroy it, before it unleashes a series of events that could lead to the destruction of Mankind.
Being an accomplished linguist, Charlotte is eventually deployed on a perilous espionage mission into the heart of the North Korean capital; Pyongyang. Whilst there, she also attempts to discover the fate of her lover, another Intelligence officer who had previously been sent into the enemy capital on another covert mission.
With the stone still unaccounted for, she focusses her energy on locating her lover. She eventually finds him, but discovers that, as a result of an automobile accident, he has no memory of her, or of their previous life together.Undeterred, she decides to bring him out of North Korea to the relative safety of the Embassy in Seoul, from where they will be flown out of the country back to the United States.
The "Fifth Freedom" is an additional freedom specifically allocated by The President of The United States of America to nominated CIA Officers - Paramilitary, or otherwise; engaged in highly covert missions to protect the "Four Freedoms" articulated by U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt in the State of the Union Address which he delivered to the United States Congress on January 6, 1941.In the address; also known as the "Four Freedoms" speech, Roosevelt proposed four fundamental freedoms that humans "everywhere in the world" ought to enjoy, including:Freedom of Speech and Expression, Freedom of Religion; Freedom from Want, and Freedom from Fear. This covert "Fifth Freedom" permits disregard to any law, agreement or framework of ethical behaviour in order for an operative to accomplish their designated mission and protect the original "Four Freedoms" of United States citizens.
It is the right to defend U.S. laws, by breaking them. To safeguard secrets, by stealing them. To save lives, by taking them. To do whatever it takes to protect the United States of America. It is fundamentally covert to ensure plausible deniability... the new phrase circulating in Government circles in Washington; which is to say that: 'if discovered and/or captured, the Government can deny any knowledge of your existence.'
