The Chronicle of Creation tells us that first there were men, the lowest of creatures, untouched by gods, brought about by sheer chance. They built many cities spread across the world in the time before the gods. Then the Dragons came, and there was a terrible war. Humans were subjugated, ruled by their Dragon overlords for millennia before the coming of the gods. The gods arrived, seeking peace and harmony, they sought to create new life, to spread wonder and magic throughout Creation. But the Dragons were greedy, and with their human slaves they fought the gods until they were destroyed by the magical might of the Pantheon. The humans were released, and owe the gods everything in return. The gods, now the sole rulers of the world, created many species, each one given a gift by their patron. Each of the races created by the gods could use magic, and were thus of a higher order than the lowly humans. That is why today humanity has no homeland. Why they wander the world as vagabonds, selling sundries and trading for what they require. Now there are rumblings in the north. Hushed words whisper of the return of the Dragons. Perhaps they are true.
