Imlach, apprentice to the archmage Qavin, is studying his magics when the local town leaders come asking for help with some local thefts. His master is away for a few weeks - will Imlach help the men and women of the town? Can he restrain his feelings of superiority? Will the thief escape? Can Imlach refrain from being unutterably smug if he finds the truth?
