Kaiz will be king. That tale is for the future, however. Today, Kaiz is not a king. He’s not a noble, not a lord, not even a liege. He’s a tanlar. It meant untitled, officially, but it also meant ungifted, unable, unworthy, unnecessary, unhuman. It was more a curse than a term. A badge only the damned and condemned wore. Kaiz was thrown away as a babe because of it. He knew starvation because of it. He learned perseverance because of it.  Those with titles could sneer all they wanted, but he wouldn’t suffer being stepped on. With his crew of other skilled untitleds who also refused to simply scrape by, he fought to make a place where none of them would have to.  He might do a bit more than that. (My cover is in flux.)
