160 years ago, the Gloom appeared, a massive black cloud originated from outside the universe as we know it. It devoured everything in its path, world to world, seemingly nothing able to sate its rabid appetite. Even Heaven fell before the monstrous miasma, causing the Goddess and her angels to fall deathly silent for the first time since the creation of the world. Then the Gloom came for the world of mortals, and it spread across countries and continents, before ending at the boundaries of the land of Gothrien, seemingly held back by a powerful cabal of wizards known as the Red Council. It has been 100 years since the day the Gloom was halted, and Gothrien hangs by a thread. No one knows when the power of the Council will falter, or halt, and the Gloom will finally finish its mission and consume all life. Meanwhile, 5 strangers arrive in the northernmost province of the Empire: Frejar. Though they do not yet know it, they will soon be wrapped up in events that may change the face of not only that cold country, but what's left of the world.
