This is a story about three people: a man, a woman, and an Alien AI. The world is in a profound state of crisis. Humanity ran out of oil, and the world is in its second decade of the Great Energy Crisis. However, technology marched on, and the crisis appears to be ending. Max Wilson was going about his day until he decided to be a hero and paid for it dearly. He runs for his life across the desolate, depopulated United States. Fleeing from the law and a brutal crime syndicate. Max faces a life of exile in the Rocky Mountains, but an alien spacecraft crashes near him while resting at the feet of a mountain. From within the smoking crater, inside the spacecraft, a dying alien altered Max's life forever. Max has been plunged into a shadow war, a war that has raged for almost a century on Earth.
