In the distant future, a human named Ranger finds himself stranded on a space station after his fighter ship experiences a mysterious warp. There, he encounters Roe, a cat-like alien, who is also trying to survive amidst a conflict involving pirates and slavers. While back on Earth war is intensifying as the Galactic Council outright declares humanity as Deathworlders and to be exterminated.
