Synopsis
A Beast Called Man
Ever feel like you’re living in a world with too many people and too little resources? Well that’s the world Michael Finley lives in. Finley is a simple man, operating a cell phone repair center, and charging his batteries with solar cells and the public grid whenever it’s available. Rolling blackouts are the norm and life as a whole, isn’t the easiest. A company called Grey Skies Technology is looking to change that with their new invention, the Power Core.
After cashing in his life savings Finley finally gets his hands on one and meets his new best friend, Chuck. After a little convincing from his new friend, Finley finds himself bypassing the power settings of the Power Core and ends up transported to a new world. In fact he finds himself in a completely different universe where things aren’t quite the same as they were on Earth.
Similar to the universe that houses Earth the universe of planet Loetz has dark matter and dark energy that pervades every corner of reality. However, unlike on Earth, within the Loetz universe it presents as mana. This mana appears as a strange duality of forms, particles of various charges and waves of frequencies of varying magnitudes. Although typically stable within the Loetz universe, mana does interact with what is thought of as ‘normal’ physics on Earth in very strange ways. At times this interaction seems to completely subvert what would be thought of as the laws of physics on Earth. Most beings within the Loetz universe have the capability to manipulate mana in some form or fashion. The product of this manipulation can vary wildly but it always results in some kind of reaction; whether it is seen or remains unseen, something somewhere has changed.
The universe of Loetz shares the same dimensional neighborhood as the Earth universe, in fact it is the Earth universe’s inter-dimensional next door neighbor. In computer terms you could think of it this way: if the Earth and Loetz universes were the size of bits and the overall multi-verse was just a giant Memory Address Register, the address for Earth’s universe would be 13,248,440 while the address of the Loetz universe would be 13,248,441. However, although the universe that houses Loetz was started with the same overall template as Earth’s universe, modifications were made. The physics are not quite the same and the entire universe operates as what many from Earth would assume is a game.
